saliency-based object discovery

Simone Frintrop, University of Bonn, Germany

In this talk, we show the use of saliency for object discovery, that means for the task of finding unknown objects in a scene. Our approach combines saliency and segmentation and follows thus the mechanisms of the human visual system to find proto-objects and build object hypotheses. Our method is applicable to images, videos, and RGB-D data and works even in cluttered scenes with dozens of objects.
